The tools selected represent a cross section of commercial products based on different technologies, each formatting business solutions in a unique manner. This side-by-side discussion will demonstrate how two tools using a variation of the same technology, such as a neural network, can format a solution in a dramatically different manner. In a relatively young industry such as data mining, there are currently no standards. As such the results of their processes can at times be quite different.
All of the software products are designed to run on desktop environments or high-end servers. They vary in price from a couple of thousand to well over a hundred thousand dollars. There are other tools on the market that were not included in this review but are equally good at data mining and modeling.
This sampling will demonstrate the wide range of features, performance, and approaches in today?s data mining software vendor market. Our purpose is also to demonstrate that the main criterion in your tool selection should be based on how well it answers your website business needs. Keep in mind the dozen criteria from the prior chapter on tool selection:

Scalability
2.
Accuracy
3.

Simply having the ?right? technology in a data mining tool is not enough. Having a tool with multiple paradigms has its...
