You have licensed the technology and you are ready to rock and roll. It would be prudent to proceed cautiously and do as much in parallel as possible with any existing systems. It is important to verify that the basic operating reports will be valid before you turn the switch and go live. If you can roll out the technology in a single department, run parallel, or in a pilot mode, that is preferred. Plan to scale up in an iterative fashion. Go slow and be careful. Do not be surprised that after several weeks in pilot mode, the system has to be turned off and shipped back to the shop for an overhaul, possibly several times. Usually, there are many unforeseen requirements and data issues when the key is turned. There will be inconsistencies, ambiguities, inaccuracies, and instances of incompleteness. Count on it. Plan for it.

Do not cut over during peak load time, at the end of the fiscal month, quarter, or year. Avoid these times if you can. You will also want to avoid times associated with any other major changes to the factory, products, or processes. Failure to pick your time wisely will result in very interesting times indeed. If you have no choice, then so be it. If you do have choices, consciously pick the better option.
