The main purpose of IS/IT planning is to formulate a policy within which a business can make informed decisions about IT investment. Information systems' planning has been a major issue in most recent surveys of management issues undertaken worldwide. This part of the book identifies several key themes within the overall topic.
This part contains four chapters. The first two chapters are a case study of a multinational computer vendor and a case study of BP Acetyls. The third chapter is not a case study; rather it analyses the experiences of several UK companies in adopting business process reengineering (BPR) initiatives. The fourth chapter provides an overview of the BPR concept, addresses the role of IT in business process redesign and discusses pertinent management issues. The first chapter is about improving information systems strategy in a large multinational IT organization. The chapter discusses the findings, which emerged from a project conducted within a large business unit. The primary objective of the project was to identify ways of improving the information systems strategy.
