Implementing 802.11 with Microcontrollers: Wireless Networking for Embedded Systems Designers

The TCP/IP Stack's Network Layer

The TCP/IP Stack's Network Layer

The Network Layer encapsulates messages passed from the Transport Layer and produces datagrams. This is where IP lives. The Network Layer encapsulates a UDP datagram or TCP segment inside an IP datagram. An IP header is added, which calls out the handling of the IP datagram, and the datagram is then passed along to the Data Link Layer for transmission.
