Lee's Loss Prevention in the Process Industries: Hazard Identification, Assessment and Control, Volume 3, Third Edition

SI units are used in this book unless otherwise stated, these are described in BS 5555:1981 SI Units and Recommendations for the Use of their Multiples and of Certain Other Units.
Table A30.1 gives selected references on units.

It is common practice to attach to units of pressure an a or a g , denoting absolute or gauge , respectively (e.g. bara, psig). This is not part of the SI system, where instead the designation absolute or gauge or some other defining term is applied to the pressure described. In this book both practices are used.
Some other units which are used in the book are
1 l/m 2 s = 10 ?3 m 3/m 2 s
1 l/m 2 min = 1.667 10 ? 5 m 3/m 2 s
1 UK gal/ft 2 min = 8.149 10 ? 4 m 3/m 2 s
1 US gal/ft 2 min = 6.791 10 ?4 m 3/m 2 s
Conversions of other units to and from SI units are given in tables compiled by Mullin (1967) and Lees (1968). The conversion table given by the latter is reproduced in Table A30.2.
1 bbl (barrel) = 42 US gal
1 lusec = 10 ?
