IT Performance Management

In Chapter 2 until Chapter 9, we described the principles and theory of performance management. We supported our theory by using examples from our work experience. In Chapter 10 four virtual IT organizations were introduced to better understand the levels of the IT value perception model. These virtual IT organizations were used to describe the specifics and attributes of the four value perception levels. These elements were created to help you better understand performance management and relate it to your working environment.
In this chapter we will show how to use the principles and basics of performance management in your own IT department. It is written to be a practical guide, not a cook book; it will give you the hints and tips to start using and implementing performance management in your situation. Please always be aware that your situation is unique and that the theory and practical examples we give you do not always apply to your situation.
This chapter starts with a recapture of the IT value perception model which was introduced in the first chapter and further elaborated in the book. For this recapture we will focus on the management attention and business goals of each level and the role performance management can and should play on each level.
