gateway
In local area networks, a computer system and its associated software that permit two networks using different protocols to communicate with each other. A gateway translates all protocol levels from physical layer up through applications layer, and can thus be used to interconnect networks that differ in every detail.
graphics station
A collection of hardware and software that features a high-resolution video display that presents information to the user in the form of both text and images. An input device that responds to the movement of the user?s hand, in addition to a keyboard, is provided.
guard band
In the allocation of frequencies for radio broadcast, broadband cable systems, or modems, a set of unused frequencies allocated in between the frequencies being used. The unused frequencies are required because filters are not precise enough to allow reception (or transmission) of signals on adjacent frequencies without interference.
