access methods
Techniques for determining which of several stations that desire to transmit will be the next to use a shared transmission medium.
access network
A local area network, generally very limited in geographical coverage, that allows users to communicate among each other and also permits access to a ?spine network? that covers a larger distance and interconnects several access networks. An access network is often used to interconnect computer equipment provided by the same vendor or equipment that was designed to function optimally on that type of network.
address
A grouping of numbers that uniquely identifies a station in a local area network, or a location in computer memory, or a house on a street, etc. For a local area network station or a computer memory location, electronic logic can be arranged to ignore messages not bearing the appropriate address and accept messages that do bear the appropriate address.
address field
A section of a message, generally at the beginning, in which the address of the intended receiving station is found.
address space
A measure of the amount of memory that can be installed on a computer. A computer that utilizes 24 bits to designate a memory location is said to have a 24-bit address space; it can address twice as much memory as a computer having a 23-bit address space.
algorithm
A set of rules for accomplishing a task. A repeated sequence of steps that a device or program executes to accomplish the task for which...
