Kbps
Kilo (1000) bits per second.
late collision
A failure condition in a CSMA/CD system in which a station begins a transmission during a transmission by another station, and does so more than a round-trip time after the other station began its transmission. This condition can occur if the second station is unable to detect carrier from the first station?s transmission or if the transmission medium is longer than it should be.

Level 3 relay
Another name for router .
Level 7 relay
Another name for gateway .
line driver
A circuit designed to transmit data outside the enclosure of a computer system, but not more than a few hundred feet. The data are not modulated or changed in any fashion, but rather higher voltage and current levels are used than would be used within a computer system.
linked list
A system of organizing data with a computer memory; it is often used for the storage of data communication messages and is characterized by the storage of both data and the address of the next block of data. Contrast with systems which alternate between two buffers, the primary buffer and the alternate buffer .
