Managing Cisco Network Security

FAQs

Q.

Why does the Windows NT system speaker beep constantly after the installation of the PIX Firewall Manager software?

A. If you have installed an application like CiscoWorks 2000 that uses the UDP port 514 for SYSLOG, or the TCP port 8080 used by the default installation of PFM, the Windows NT server will beep to inform you about this conflict. You can stop the relevant services in Windows NT Services to disable the application using the conflicting port.

Q.

Why do you get an error message during the installation of PFM that you don t have permission to run the installer?

A. This error occurs when you don t have administrator permission on the local Windows NT computer or when you try to install PFM on a Windows NT domain controller. Check that you have the correct permission to create accounts in the local NT Security Accounts Manager (SAM) required for the installation.

Q.

Can you use the ACL Manager to apply change ACLs on your network at a specific time?

A. Yes, you can define all changes required and apply them to the selected devices at a specified time.

Q.

When does a device in CiscoWorks become unreachable?

A. This will happen when you have a connection problem between the CiscoWorks 2000 server and the manager device. It could also be the case when you have configured an ACL that denies the server access to the specific device.
