This book comes with a companion CD-ROM containing almost all the calculations represented in the text. Examples, listings, and figures are presented on the companion CD-ROM, both in the Mathcad and the HTML formats. If the Mathcad software is installed on your PC, you can open Mathcad documents, change parameter values, and use any part of these documents in your own computations. For compatibility reasons we have tried to use the older version of Mathcad 2001, except for several examples executed in Mathcad 11 and 13 formats. To enable the reader to browse easily through the calculations we have combined all of the programs into a special Mathcad format called the Mathcad e-book.

HTML files contain the same calculations in the static mode. Even if you do not have Mathcad installed, you can open these documents in an ordinary browser (e.g., Microsoft Internet Explorer).

To see examples from the book as the e-book (recommended):

1. Open Mathcad (2001 or later version required)

2. Choose Help/Open Book.

3. Open file comp_sc.hbk.

4. View all documents in the book with the help of the NEXT TOPIC and PREVIOUS TOPIC buttons.

5. View selected key examples by hyperlinks from the tables of contents.

6. To employ calculations in your own documents: first select them, click Ctrl+C, then return to your document and then click Ctrl+V.

In addition to using the e-book format, you can open calculations as an ordinary Mathcad document:

1. In Mathcad, choose File/Open.

2. Open appropriate .mcd or .xmcd (Mathcad 13) file.
