A single CO is completed by a single picker.
A single CO is completed by several pickers.
Batched or multiple COs are completed by a single or multiple pickers.
A single CO that is completed by a single picker is used in a manual pick and pack or automatic pick machine operation. The picked SKUs are transferred from a pick position to a CO tote. One picker travels all pick aisles or the entire pick area to complete all SKU and piece pick transactions for a CO.
With a manual picker concept, the disadvantages are low employee productivity due to greater travel distances. The manual concept handles a low CO volume and small CO size or cube, employs the greatest number of pickers, longer CO order and delivery cycle time, and with an automatic pick concept, a high capital cost. The advantages are maintains CO integrity selection process, easy to identify problem pickers, easy to control, and with an automatic pick concept, accurate picks.
A single CO that is completed with multiple order pickers, mechanized pick concept, or automatic pick machines is used in an order-fulfillment operation that has a pick and pack operation. Picked SKUs are transferred directly from a pick position into a CO discreetly identified tote and transported through the pick area.
