Introducing and Implementing Autodesk Revit Building

Welcome

"Get the right tool for the job.'

OVERVIEW

The above words entered the popular lexicon in the free-wheeling 1960s, spoken by a metaphoric cartoon character who combined confident disregard of hidebound conventional thinking a common commodity in those days with a wise, practical outlook, rare enough in any generation. His advice is timeless, not old school.

In today's design world the tools of the trade are computerized, and applications or releases appear every couple of years. How do we recognize the right tool amidst today's clamor of constant change? What marks a real advance in technology that will benefit designers and the firms that employ them? How do we take advantage of changes in tools while constantly involved in the rigors of meeting expectations and deadlines? Are there definitive answers to these questions?

This book has a double purpose:

  • to introduce Autodesk Revit Building as the next generation in architectural design, a fully 3-dimensional building modeler of exceptional power, depth, and ease of use, that functions well at all phases of the design process, from concept sketches all the way through construction documentation

  • to prepare individuals, firms and schools for the process of implementing this new tool into their current work flow and processes. Successful implementation will require planning, training, and a transition phase from current Computer Aided Design applications. We will use AutoCAD, the worldwide standard, as a reference.
