Introducing and Implementing Autodesk Revit Building

EXERCISE OVERVIEW

The exercises in the rest of this book will follow a hypothetical design project. The program of this project is as follows:

  • Project setup tasks: Work with an existing lakeside site containing one multistory building, an access road, and a parking lot. The building holds collegiate classrooms and offices. Model the existing building shell and site in Revit Building. The reference material consists of AutoCAD files a site plan in 3D, and 2D exterior elevations of the existing building.

  • Project Phase 1 tasks: Design a second multistory building near the first one. The new building is to hold offices, classrooms, labs, and a kitchen/cafeteria facility. Transform one wing of the existing building into an elevated passage to the new building. Move the parking lot underground; turn the space between the two buildings into a pedestrian courtyard; create a pedestrian plaza over the new parking garage. The reference materials consist of scanned sketches.

  • Project Phase 2 tasks: Design a second building to contain offices, a dining facility, and a residence tower. Move the occupants of the offices in buildings 1 and 2 to building 3. Convert the office space in building 2 to classrooms. Convert building 1 into a residence hall. There is no reference material for this phase.

  • Project Phase 3 tasks: Design a performing arts building to sit between buildings 2 and 3. This building is to have offices; rehearsal halls; an art gallery; and theater space with a stage, wing, overhead space, a projection booth, and raked...
