Microwave Radio Transmission Design Guide

Chapter 7: Frequency Planning

Planning a radio system involves ensuring that the radio system will carry traffic with the desired quality level. A lot of discussion goes into understanding fading mechanisms to ensure that the radio system is designed to overcome these unwanted effects. One effect that has been ignored until now is interference. Frequency planning is such an important aspect of radio link design that a whole chapter has been devoted to it.

7.1 What is Interference?

Interference is any unwanted signal that would present itself to the receiver section of a radio for demodulation. It can be a delayed copy of the radio links' own signal, an adjacent channel's signal traveling over the same link, or a signal from another radio link or RF source.
