1 Introduction

1.1 Purpose

The purpose of this book is to provide you with the knowledge to plan and control projects using Primavera Project Planner P3 Version 3.1. At the end of this book you will be able to:

  • complete the steps to create a project plan

  • set up P3 software and create a new project

  • define calendars

  • define activity codes

  • add and organize activities

  • add logic constraints and scheduling

  • format the display and filter activities

  • print reports

  • record and track progress

  • modify your project and scheduling options

  • create and assign resources

  • understand activity types and driving resources

  • status projects with resources

  • understand the more advanced features of P3 and

  • use project utilities.

The book does not cover every aspect of the P3 Project Planner software but covers all of the main aspects. It provides a solid grounding that allows you to learn the other features of the software from the help files and printed manuals.

The chapter entitled WHAT'S NEW IN P3 VERSION 3. 0 & 3.1 outlines the new features of P3 Versions 3.0 and 3.1.

There are workshops at the end of each chapter and completed workshops in P3 format may be downloaded from the Eastwood Harris web site at http://www.eh.com.au.
