Safety encoders for mobile machines
Safety for mobile machines
Whether in municipal vehicles, in AGVs in intralogistics, or in AMRs in heavy-duty use in mines or ports: Wherever vehicles or bodies are moved or steered automatically, safety for the environment but also for the vehicle itself must be guaranteed at all times. The safety encoder from ifm can be used to record position, angle and speed values of moving elements such as axles, turntable ladders, crane arms or tipping bodies. This information can be used to derive steering, turning or tilting angles or the current height position of lifting elements. Continuous position adjustment, for example via RFID, is also possible thanks to the "preset on the fly" function.

Fast integration, even in series
The redundancy of the sensors required to ensure safe operation is already integrated into the safety encoder. This, as well as the associated continuous self-monitoring of the safe function, has been tested and certified by TÜV Rheinland. In addition, the sensor is integrated into the SISTEMA library. This reduces the effort required to implement and later approve safety-related automation immensely. The safety encoder also has both a CAN input and a CAN output, allowing multiple encoders or other compatible sensors to be connected in series, making the installation of safety sensors efficient and easy.

Seamless communication with the controller
In combination with the ifm control system, the programming effort in Codesys is also significantly reduced, as the seamless connection of the encoder to the controller and secure communication between the two products is guaranteed by default

Moves everything safely into position

  • Integrated safety testing, TÜV certificate and daisy-chain option simplify system design
  • Exact position adjustment in motion thanks to the "preset on the fly" function
  • Additional ifm mode, including active safe-state, for faster system response
