Types of Process Equipment

There are many different types of process equipment. Blenders are driven by a motor and mix ingredients together. Combustion equipment burns fuel to produce heat, chemicals, and gases. Condensation systems change substances from a gaseous to a liquid or solid state. Crystallizers cool liquids or evaporate solvents to form solid crystals of solute form. Distillers apply and remove heat in order to separate a liquid or vapor mixture into component fractions of desired purity. Dryers are used to remove liquids or moisture from bulk solids, powders, parts, continuous sheets or other liquids by evaporation or sublimation. Evaporators remove a liquid from a solution, suspension or emulsion by boiling off part of the liquid. Injection and metering equipment permits manual adjustment of fluid flow though a valve. Melters use heat to change solids into liquids.
