Managing Software Deliverables: A Software Development Management Methodology

Chapter 7: SEP Phase VI Implementation

Overview

The SEP Phase VI roadmap (Figure 7.1) starts with a review of the deliverables checklist. We cover the details of the deliverables checklist in the next section. For now, let s focus our attention on the roadmap. In this phase, the Core Team is responsible for developing training plans and rollout plans. What is not shown on this roadmap is the actual process of getting the system installed, started up, and into a production mode. At this point, most of the work of standing a system up falls into the hands of the IT or

MIS organization, whose responsibility it is to ensure the hardware is in place and operational. The software deliverable is usually handed off from the development and test teams to the IT organization for installation on the company premises or company-designated locations. The focus of this chapter is not on the details of the physical implementation of hardware and software, but on handling the user aspects of training and implementation at an organizational level, such as installing a new Sales Force Automation tool into the sales organization.

7.1 Review SEP Deliverables Checklist

As you can see, there is not a lot of detail in this checklist (see Figure 7.2). Three mandatory items the Training Plan, the Installation Rollout Plan, and the Signoff Letter are what the Core Team is responsible for accomplishing; however, do not let yourself be lulled into a false sense of security by the simplicity of this checklist.
