10.6 Making Success a Team Effort

In the modern technology environments of today s businesses, there are no one-person shows. Teamwork is essential at all levels because the sophistication of business processes and technology surpasses the capabilities of a single individual. For a project to be successful, the selection of a team is an essential skill. More about teamwork and team composition will be discussed later in this chapter. The key message here is that a project should never be attempted without forming a Core Team that consists of representation from the user community and other business units across the organization. Core Teams are an essential, gating factor to success. Enlightened Project Managers intuitively know that teams can be the determining factor to their success, and they are careful to scrutinize the composition and representation of a team early on in the project process. It is the project leader s role to properly empower and motivate the team members to do their respective parts in the project effort to make it succeed.
