TABLE OF CONTENTS This chapter focuses on preparing you todesign your Windows Software Update Services (WSUS) implementation. The foundation begins with athorough assessment of your current infrastructure so that you know exactly how your network islaid out and how it is organized from geographic locations to organizational units (OUs) tosecurity groups and more. Once you have reviewed the infrastructure, you need to look at how youcurrently manage your infrastructure so that your WSUS environment maps well to your existingstructure. At the end of this chapter, you will have all the information you need to effectivelydesign your organization s unique WSUS environment based on both your infrastructure layout and onyour current network management practices.
Before you can design your WSUS environment, you must assess your current infrastructure.This assessment includes the current (and near future) geographic distribution of computers, thenetwork architecture in place, the security requirements for your organization, and the types ofclients and servers on your network.
