Pro Tools 5.1 for Music Production: Recording, Editing, and Mixing

Perhaps the most essential utility that Pro Tools users will need is Norton Utilities. This software lets you diagnose and repair damaged disks, optimize their performance, recover accidentally deleted files, recover data from an accidentally initialized or crashed disk, and keep your computer virus-free.
And, before you ask, yes, you will need to do all of these things at some time or other and you can never know when! A disk can go down the day you buy your computer or several years later or at any, and possibly many, points in between.
Viruses are generally not as common or as destructive on the Mac as on the PC, but you may well encounter one or more of these at some point. Norton can be set up to check every file that exists on or is introduced to your disk drives to help prevent any such unwanted occurrence.
But even if none of these things ever happened, Norton is absolutely essential for Pro Tools users in order to keep the audio disk drives optimized.
When you launch Norton Utilities you are presented with the various options listed in the main window (Figure 12.30).
When you select Norton Disk Doctor, the software scans the drives connected to your computer and lists all the drive partitions for you to check (Figure 12.31).
