Configuring Citrix MetaFrame for Windows 2000 Terminal Services

Terminal Services, which delivers the Windows 2000 graphical user interface (GUI), through a server-based computing model, provides shared access to applications and an excellent remote administration capability to administrators.
Before you deploy Citrix MetaFrame, you first need to install the Windows 2000 Terminal Services component. Although Terminal Services is an integral component of the Windows 2000 operating system, it is not deployed by default. Best practices demand that the Windows 2000 Terminal Services deployment is approached as a project in itself.
All versions of Windows 2000 Server include Terminal Services, as the program is now a component of the operating system.
Before you begin installation, be sure you are familiar with all types of adapters in the computer (check the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List at www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp): the types and quantities of licenses, how the physical disks and partitions will be configured, and all the necessary network information (IP addresses, subnet masks, and Windows Internet Naming Service/Domain Name System (WINS/DNS) mapping).
Note that Terminal Services Licensing only manages Terminal Services licenses. It does not work with or replace other Windows licensing.
Terminal Services client software is used for 16-bit and 32-bit Windows-based clients. If you want to run clients with other platforms, you must install a third-party software package such as Citrix MetaFrame for your Windows 2000 server(s).
