Configuring Citrix MetaFrame XP for Windows Including Feature Release 1

Resource Manager is a monitoring utility created specifically for the MetaFrame XP server-based environment. Other, less server-based utilities often do not give accurate readings because they are not in tune with the server-based environment. They do not take into account that the server is performing 100 percent of the processing and that multiple users are running sessions, sometimes multiple sessions, from the server at one time.
Resource Manager allows you to collect, display, and analyze information about your server or farm and capture real-time performance data and produce reports. It can show you the applications that are running, how many instances of those applications are running, and who is running them. You can track the resources consumed by each user, user group, and application. You can use Resource Manager to:
Manage resources
Monitor and analyze system performance, application usage, and user behavior
Identify and diagnose potential problems
Gather statistical data
Create reports
Gauge and justify future resource needs
Plan and scale servers and server farms
Monitor or ignore processes
Automatically reboot servers
During installation, Resource Manager automatically creates a set of default metrics that represent a variety of system and/or network processes and events. If the value of a metric falls outside the normal range, Resource Manager can inform the system administrator in a number of ways. During installation, Resource Manager automatically creates a default set of metrics and assigns upper and lower limits to define the normal operating range of each.
