The Product
Penguins have many unique properties to consider during the product development phase. A major physical limitation the penguin product imposes is the fact that penguins require cool climates to survive.
The Perky Pets engineering team developed a state-of-the-art helmet-type cooling device that straps onto the penguin's head. The total product is the penguin and helmet sold as a unit called Penguin-in-a-Helmet. The product will be marketed as an impulse item sold at grocery stores throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Manufacturing Process
Fabrication and shipping of the cooling helmets require the following steps:

Various suppliers provide Perky Pets with both penguin and nonpenguin manufacturing components. Penguins are obtained in the most humane fashion possible. Effort is made to ensure that penguins are collected in family units. This avoids the trauma that could be experienced, particularly in the case of young penguins that may be separated from their parents. Research suggests that by avoiding such trauma as parental separation, penguins are more likely to maintain their perkiness.

Components are inspected on receipt via appropriate sampling plans. Nonpenguin components that pass receiving inspection are forwarded to the manufacturing areas. Penguins are placed in specially designed penguin quarters, where trained penguin counselors work to ensure the penguins remain healthy and perky. Components that not meet inspection criteria are returned to vendors.

Nonpenguin components are then used to assemble the helmets.

The final manufacturing step is strapping the helmet onto the penguin, ensuring a snug but comfortable fit.
