MIGRATION MODELLING FROM FOOD- CONTACT PLASTICS INTO FOODSTUFFS AS A NEW TOOL FOR CONSUMER EXPOSURE ESTIMATION
Franz R
Fraunhofer-Institut fuer Verfahrenstechnik & Verpackung

An overview of a European Union-funded project on the mathematical modelling of migration of chemicals from food-contact plastics into foodstuffs as a method for estimating consumer exposure to such chemicals is presented. Progress in the modelling of migration of a range of model migrants, including antioxidants, plasticisers, stabilisers and monomers, from various polymer films such as polyethylene and polyamide, in contact with aqueous acidic, fatty and dry foods, is discussed. 38 refs.
