The properties of functional barriers, multilayer structures designed to prevent migration of some chemicals released by food-contact materials into food, were investigated by determination of diffusion coefficients for a range of polymers at elevated temperatures. The use of numerical models to simulate migration is discussed in terms of differences in migration behaviour between mono- and multilayer food packaging materials. 19 refs.
