Accelerating Process Improvement Using Agile Techniques

The Launch step kicks off the Process Improvement effort. It is important to getting the support needed from the appropriate staff. This step should not be smoothed over since it can make the difference between being able to accelerate the effort or not.
This should have been accomplished prior to going into the Process Improvement effort. It is important for the organization to know what goals are targeted for completion of the effort. This may change as the Process Improvement effort progresses but going into the effort with a set of achievable goals needs to be determined.
Each organization is unique so the goals will vary significantly but some of the objectives that should be considered include:
What model or models would help the organization gain the most advantage?
What level of maturity is optimal?
What practices are most important to achieve based on the organizational needs?
Formal Appraisal vs Continued Process Improvement?
What are customers' expectations concerning process maturity?
Deployment of the processes to entire organization or subsets? What subsets?
What level of technology can be allocated for the effort? Expertise needed to achieve?
There are numerous other areas to consider based on an organization's unique needs and available resources. There are always significant events that will drive the decisions made to even go into a Process Improvement effort that will hence drive the goals set for the effort.
