INTRODUCTION

Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) examinations are prepared by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). All fifty states and five jurisdictions are represented by membership on the NCEES. Two times a year (spring and fall) the NCEES provides the state and jurisdiction licensing boards with examinations for their administration. All candidates for licensure as professional engineers must pass this uniform examination as one of the requirements for registration. Most jurisdictions also screen candidates based upon education, experience and other professional aspects. The board in the candidate's jurisdiction will provide information on requirements for professional registration as well as date and location for the next examination. The candidate should allow ample time in processing the application.

Problems, solutions and other information contained in this publication are intended to assist the candidate in preparing for the Electrical Engineering PE examination. Electrical engineering discipline and style of problems contained herein parallel those of recent exams. Be aware that the PE exam is different each time and the NCEES makes no guarantee that the current style and problem content will carry forward to future exams. The style has gradually and continually evolved into a more structured exam that leaves less latitude in problem solution. This makes the exam fairer and easier to grade. Recent exams more clearly test the knowledge of the candidate.
