EXAM PROCESS

The PE exam is administered in conformance with a rigid set of rules. The proctor will explain the process before the morning session begins. Briefly, the examinee can expect to be confronted with the following:

  • The examination booklet will include a solution pamphlet for the a.m. essay questions and a machine-scoreable answer sheet for the p.m. multiple-questions.

  • Solutions to the essay questions must be recorded in the solution pamphlet. All work to be considered for credit must be entered on right-facing pages. Left-facing pages are to be used for scratch work and will not be graded. The upper right-hand corner of each right-facing page contains space for Board Code, Examinee ID No., Problem No. and number of pages used in the solution.

  • The front page of the solution pamphlet contains space for the examinee's name and the numbers of the problems that are to be scored. The candidate's solution pamphlet may contain more than four problem solutions, or partial solutions. Only the four to be scored must be identified on the front cover.

  • The multiple-choice answer sheet is machine scored and requires the use of a #2 pencil, so several of these must be taken to the exam. If an answer is to be changed, the first answer must be completely erased so as not to be incorrectly graded. A good eraser is also a necessity.
