Mastering Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2006

In this chapter we will explore nonvertical building surfaces, including roofs and slabs. In Architectural Desktop, roofs are typically made in three stages. In the first stage, you'll make the overall roof structure by using the Roof tool. Not being style-based, the Roof tool has a limited set of properties that are used to design an integrated set of roof surfaces as a single object.
The second stage of roof design begins after you have gone as far as possible with the Roof object then you'll convert its roof surfaces into individual roof slabs. Roof slabs are style-based objects that offer you greater control and thus allow you to design the roof, surface by surface. You'll create a variety of roof types, add dormers, and extend the roof, all using roof slabs. In addition, you'll learn how to work with slabs, which are similar to but different from roof slabs. Slabs are style-based objects that can be used for interior horizontal surfaces such as floors, stair landings, and basements.
The final stage of roof design deals with customizing roof slab edges. You'll add profile-based fascia and soffits to individual roof slab edges to further articulate the roof design. Slab edges and roof slab edges work in very similar ways and are based on styles. This chapter's topics include:
Making Roofs
Working with Slabs and Roof Slabs
Customizing Roof Slab Edges
The simplest roof form is the flat roof. In reality, flat roofs are not perfectly flat; they have...
