Resource Allocation in Hierarchical Cellular Systems

The objective of this book is to present an up-to-date survey and description of efficient channel allocation strategies (CASs) for use in future wireless cellular mobile telecommunication systems (WCMTSs) formed by hierarchical cellular structures (HCSs).
This book aims to present up-to-date information on a topic of great interest to research scientist and engineers working on mobile communication systems. The topic is that of WCMTS design, both now and in the future, when they will require efficient CASs and HCS. It is based on work carried out for a Ph.D. degree at King's College London.
While care is taken to provide adequate descriptive sections throughout the book, its contents are deliberately intended to present the mathematical theory behind the designs and to give relevant system performance results obtained both analytically and by computer simulation from the results of the theory. Therefore, it is hoped that the book will cater to both readers with a general telecommunications background who want to know what is going on and the more specialist design engineers who need to know and understand the tools and methods being applied.
The radio spectrum allocated to these networks is fixed and scarce, and efforts have to be made to optimize its utilization.
