Day 1: Kickoff. Management should announce to all employees involved that it is in support of the effort and that it WILL BE SUCCESSFUL! This is also a good time to introduce the process owners to the group. An overview of what the process focus will entail is appropriate in this first session.
Days 2 3: Education continues
There is one step that carries little controversy among successful organizations that have achieved inventory location balance accuracy. That step is education and training. It is education that enables the masses, and therefore it is the first and most important step. Training keeps everyone in sync.
If a manager gives an employee a directive, as long as it clears the minimal acceptable standards set by ethical, legal, and moral filters, the action is usually carried out. If this management request involves a change in practice and works against well-established organizational habits, the directive may be carried out initially, but may not be effective in changing ongoing habits! Humans hate change. It seems to be a given trait. But what if the employees under- stand why the directive was given and have a grasp on what s in it for them? At that point, the employees stand a much better chance of being excited about the new change and willing to participate in a new way of doing things.
