TO INSTALL OR NOT TO INSTALL

As a server, Windows NT can perform well by offering an easy user front end Graphical User Interface (GUI). One of the benefits Windows NT offers is Wizards that implement software additions and correct many different problems. Wizards remove the complexity involved when adding a printer. In guiding you through these processes you eliminate the chance for errors and can easily perform technical tasks (see Figure 3.1).

One of the factors that makes NT 5.0 attractive is the fact that its wizards would be able to identify and solve most legacy problems within a given network. The ability to resolve conflict easily would make NT an excellent installation choice for most systems.

Windows NT 3.x had several problems that, if exhibited in NT 5.0, would make prior NT users wary to install the new operating system. Some of the tasks that were not easy to implement in the old version of NT included sending a fax from within an application. One of the biggest problems was that NT 3.x was a very memory intensive operating system. If you didn't have a large amount of memory, the system could run slowly or not at all. NT 5.0 has addressed many of the memory problems and has implemented a much leaner architecture in version 5.0.
