Windows NT Security Guide

Chapter 14: Securely Connecting to the World

OVERVIEW

The advantage of networking with Windows NT is best expressed through its implementation with the Internet Information Server (IIS). Windows NT's GUI interface allows it to network to the entire world through the Internet while offering an easy implementation schedule. Budgetary concerns are also more reasonable as this product offers the IIS product that removes a great deal of the complexity.

IIS provides features such as: World Wide Web Service, Gopher Services, FTP Services, Internet Service Manager, Internet Database Connector, and Client browsers. These browsers work with Windows 3.11, Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT 4.0/5.0, and Windows 95/98. In addition, the Internet Information Server works with HTML browsers that are designed to work with both Macintosh and UNIX operating systems.
