Appendix C: Management Information Base MIB II (RFC 1213)

Overview

The basic MIB II objects are defined by RFC 1213. This document defines 11 groups shown in the table below together with their OIDs. The following sections then briefly describe the 171 objects that make up this area of the management tree. It should be noted that many of the groups are considered mandatory thus, any SNMP compliant device should implement them allowing at least minimal management capability. Any compliant device will therefore be manageable, and will maintain these objects at the very least.

This list is not exhaustive but merely defines those objects specified by RFC 1213. As new protocols and network concepts are introduced, new groups are added and will continue to be so for many years to come.

These objects monitor the Internet Protocol (IP) used within the device.

Contains objects that return statistics on all aspects of ICMP.

Contains objects that monitor the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).

Provides statistical data on the User Datagram Protocol (UDP).

These objects return statistics relating to the Exterior Gateway Protocol (EGP).
