| Q. | I have a digital phone switch at my main office and analog at my remote offices. Can I use a digital interface into the router at my central office and analog at my remote sites? If so, how does this work? | |
| A. | At your central site, you would use a digital trunk card interfaced to a voice-enabled router. At the remote facilities, you would either use an FXO or FXS interface based on the type of connection that your phone system supported. The router handles all conversions and transportation of conversations. | |
| Q. | Suppose that I had a voice-enabled router that was connected to the Internet via high-speed DSL utilizing a single voice line. Could I use this line to connect multiple phone calls though my PBX even though I have only a single line? If so, how does it work? | |
| A. | Once a voice conversation is converted by a DSP, it is data. Regardless of the number of voice lines, the real test is bandwidth capacity. The key to the number of calls is the amount of constant data that can be maintained, so, effectively, this limit is then based on how good your compression is and the DSL service. At some point, however, if communicating to a PTSN, a gateway must be used that is one channel per conversation. | |
