Utilizing Media Convergence Servers (MCS 78xx)
The Cisco Media Convergence servers are PC-based systems that operate on Windows 2000 operating systems to supply call management control and unified messaging services to AVVID clients. Although the systems that govern the unified messaging and Cisco s call management software functionality have enough memory and processing capacity to house both services in a single server for smaller environments, currently they operate on different operating systems and need to be placed on different units.
Media convergence servers are covered in heavy detail in Chapter 4 and as such are simply summarized for hardware in Table 2.5.
