eddy currents

The electric currents set up by alternating currents in a conductor by a changing magnetic flux, near or in an electric circuit.

eddy-current testing

A testing method used in nondestructive testing in which eddy-current flow is induced in a conductor referred to as the test object. Changes in the flow caused by variations in the object are reflected by changing magnetic flux into a nearby coil or coils for subsequent analysis using suitable instrumentation and techniques.
