machine time (MT)
the time attributed to automated operations. Contrast with human time.
maintainability
the probability that a machine can be maintained in its stated operable conditions, or restored to them within a specified time, taking into consideration characteristics of design, installation, and operation. The basic measure of maintainability is mean time to repair.
maintenance prevention design (MPD)
new equipment is designed and/or selected to ensure minimal and easy maintenance by incorporating feedback from users of current equipment. Also, life-cycle costs become an important consideration in equipment design or purchase.
major function
the part of the end product that performs a distinct secondary function such as an engine cooling system.
Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
named after economist Malcolm Baldrige, this government-sponsored award recognizes up to five American companies per year that demonstrate outstanding total quality management systems. The seven categories of the award criteria include leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, information and analysis, human resource development and management, process management, and business results.
