Item 1 is the inlet of the pump. The inlet usually has some form of filter on it. The filter should be changed on a regular basis to keep it from becoming stopped up. This will keep it in good condition so it can pass the required amount of fluid on to the pump. This inlet line should always be below the level of the fluid in the tank, thus preventing air from entering the inlet of the pump and damaging the system.
Item 2 is the return line from the system. This line carries all the fluid returning to the reservoir. It should enter the tank and stay at a level that will not allow air to enter the returning oil. This will prevent the oil and air mixing and being carried into the system. The inspector should be alert to keep the oil at a level that will prevent splashing or churning in the tank.
Item 3 is the electric motor. The most common inspection item for the motor is for heat. The motor should be approximately 25 to 29 F higher in temperature than the surrounding environment.
