BCS: British Computer Society
Broadband: Higher speed connection for data and telephone communication using existing telephone exchange connections
Bit: Binary digit
Byte: 8 bits
CIPD: Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development
COSHH: Care of Substances Hazardous to Health
Dial up: Connection to the Internet/email using a modem over a conventional telephone line
Email: Electronic mail
Extranet: External Internet
H&S: Health and safety (within the terms of the Health and Safety at Work Act)
Hot desking: Practice where staff members have no permanent desk but have access to facilities when on company premises via a pool of shared desks
HR: Human resources (department), also known as Personnel
Internet: Public access information distribution system, often used to support email and WWW transmission
