Roofing solar cells that produce both electricity and hot water.... I still like the old lead acid battery selection as a cheaper form of storage even though the fire/explosion risk and maintenance/care is higher but can be reduced by proper design of the battery room....

Don't use quick discharge tests. They only find the worst batteries.

Have fuses & wiring up to date & they must be well ventilated & protected from the weather.

Make sure that the equipment you use is rated for True RMS and the accuracy is sufficient for the application.

You are on your own- know that once you piece two pieces of equipment TOGETHER you’ll likely lose the support of both companies' support department.

Battery selection was where I saved most of my money which can be put into energy production... Solar cells are very expensive, regardless of how efficient the technology is making cells when compared to wind power (of course that's where location comes into play/if you are located in an area that makes obtaining wind difficult, wind power may not be as productive as in other areas) Wind power saves the next highest amount and always have a back up generator hooked into the system for extended periods of darkness or over using the abilities of your power system to assure you don't damage your batteries by dropping below 50% of the reserve power rating.... otherwise they will last forever....
