So I made a better power supply with current to spare (2A@ 12 .6V), used a LM350 regulator, and made the slow speed a 6 position rotary switch with .3Ω resistors that would be in series. .... Now the fast speed (rotary sw. disconnected) slows down to about a volt after about 30 seconds.
