CD and DVD Forensics

Chapter 6: CD/DVD Inspector-The Basics

For this chapter, you will need a current copy of the CD/DVD Inspector evaluation install file. If your workstation already has CD/DVD Inspector installed, skip the CD/DVD Inspector Installation section.

CD/DVD Inspector Installation

Assuming that you have not installed CD/DVD Inspector on your workstation, do so now. CD/DVD Inspector is distributed as a single installation executable file; therefore, double-clicking the proper file begins the installation process.

CD/DVD Inspector does not install any drivers or files into system folders. It does install a kernel module; however, you will have to restart the computer in order to get loaded and running.

The entire installation takes approximately one minute. During the installation, you will be prompted to select either basic or expert mode. It is suggested that you leave the default at basic, which controls the degree of prompting that is done during the examination of a disc.

The evaluation version of CD/DVD Inspector has everything that is required to operate the product; however, if you are using the full version you will also need a dongle that contains the full version. Some dongles require an additional licensing file in order to operate properly. All of the required files and drivers should be present on the installation CD. If you are downloading the software over the Internet, you may need to separately download the dongle driver.

The evaluation version of CD/DVD Inspector is time-limited on each computer it is installed. Copying files from discs is only available with the full version...
