Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003

Welcome to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, the fifth version of Microsoft s premier e-mail and collaboration client! If you re reading this, you re probably anticipating a rollout of Microsoft Outlook 2003 or Office 2003 in your organization, or you have already installed Office or Outlook 2003 and want to know how to deploy and manage certain settings.
This book is designed to help you configure Outlook 2003 to take advantage of its many features, including new, more efficient connectivity methods for Microsoft Exchange accounts. It is not, however, a soup-to-nuts guide to deploying Outlook. The Microsoft Office 2003 Resource Kit, available online at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX011417911033.aspx, contains several books worth of essential information on how to deploy Office and Outlook in almost every imaginable scenario. It also contains essential free tools, such as the Custom Installation Wizard and Custom Maintenance Wizard, which we ll refer to frequently.
We ve written this book as a reference for network administrators and help desks in organizations of all sizes that either need to manage Outlook configurations centrally or want to understand the options available for configuring and troubleshooting Outlook features. (Truly curious power users might also find it very interesting, though!)
With the exception of Chapter 5, Exchange Account Configuration, and Chapter 7, Managing the Outlook Security Settings Folder, both of which apply only to organizations using Microsoft Exchange as their mail server, the information in this book is applicable to almost any kind of Outlook environment using any kind of mail server.
