Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003

In Appendix A, you saw all the settings included in the Outlk11.adm administrative template file for Outlook 2003 with Office 2003 Service Pack 1. In this appendix, we cover three other types of policy and user preference settings:
Settings available through the group policy editor as options for Office in general, but particularly relevant to Outlook
Settings added to Outlook by hotfixes released after Office 2003 Service Pack 1
Other Outlook settings of interest, including confirmation dialogs
Presumably Microsoft will include the hotfix settings in a new Outlk11.adm administrative template file released when Office 2003 Service Pack 2 becomes available. In the meantime, if you want to manage these settings through the group policy editor, you can create a new .adm file, as described in Chapter 2.
The Office settings discussed in this appendix are located in the group policy editor under Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates or User Configuration/Administrative Templates and are presented in the same order that you would see them in the group policy editor. The user options generally also exist as user preference settings in the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) and Custom Maintenance Wizard (CMW) tools, in which case the registy values would reside in the HKEY_CURRENT_ USER\Software\Microsoft key instead of the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Policies\Microsoft key.
Hotfix settings can also be deployed with the CIW or CMW, using the screen for adding registry values.
HKCU is used throughout as an abbreviation for the HKEY_ CURRENT_USER registry hive, and HKLM for the HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE hive.
