The Persona Lifecycle: Keeping People in Mind Throughout Product Design

Gigantic for Kids (G4K) is a fictitious company that we ve created to help illustrate many of the concepts presented in this book. The initial description of G4K is presented on page 68 in chapter 3. Rather than repeat that content here, we present G4K as an organizational archetype (i.e., a persona of a company). We created G4K so that we could give you an idea of how a persona project might work in a company from start to finish. We have also included an example persona, Tanner, that the G4K team created during their persona project.
Gigantic for Kids (G4K) currently specializes in children s entertainment and education ( edutainment ) software. Their products are distributed through traditional brick and mortar retail outlets as well as third party Web retailers.
Gigantic has been exploring the viability of the Internet, both to market and distribute their traditional shrink-wrap software products as well as to extend their product offerings and business/revenue model. As part of this new strategy, their corporate Web site, www.G4kids.com, is soon to become a destination site for kids, providing children-oriented entertainment, news and merchandise primarily related to their existing software offerings. While this is not a major departure from their normal business (the new kid s portal is seen simply as an opportunity to build stronger customer loyalty and deeper branding), they are also flirting with the possibility of partnering with other children-focused merchants, potentially offering joint promotions, advertising, and sponsorship (e.g., sponsoring...
