A

acronym
Condenses an often-used collection of words. Acronyms are used in the business world, such as LAN (local area network). Acronyms are also used in discussion groups, newsgroups, forums, and chat rooms, such as BTW (by the way).
address book
Personal directory of e-mail addresses stored in one s e-mail program.
archives
Documents stored in online archives on Web sites. These documents may be past issues of online newsletters or a series of messages saved from an electronic discussion group.
ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange)
Most common format for text files in computers and on the Internet.
Autoresponders
Automated programs that are set up to send out a prewritten response upon receipt of an e-mail message.

banner ad
Advertisement on a Web site that hyperlinks to the advertiser s Web site. It s called a banner ad because the original online advertisements were always in the shape of a banner and were usually positioned at the top of a Web page.
benefits
Turns prospects into buyers. The benefits of a product, not the features, answer the prospect s question What s in it for me? (WIIFM). You must answer the customer s question by explaining how the features are useful to the customer. The answers then turn the features into benefits.
bookmark
A function in a Web browser that allows users to save frequently visited Web sites. Users can then easily access the book- marked sites (URLs) through a dropdown menu. Many users use the bookmark function to organize their favorite...
