Converting Common Fractions To Decimal Fractions. To convert common fractions to decimal fractions:
Write the common fraction.
Divide the numerator by the denominator.
Continue the division until there is no remainder or until the desired number of decimal places in the answer is reached (normally, five places and round off to four).
Example

To convert decimal fractions to common fractions:
Write the decimal fraction as a common fraction. Remember to use the proper number of zeros in the denominator.
Reduce this common fraction to its lowest terms.

Dividing Decimal Fractions: To divide decimal fractions:
Write the problem as whole number division by moving the decimal point of the dividing number to the extreme right (this will make the decimal fraction appear as a whole number). Note the number of places the decimal point was moved.
Move the decimal point in the divided number to the right the same number of places. Add zeros if necessary.
Divide as a whole number problem.
Locate the decimal point in the answer directly above the new position in the divided number.
Continue the division until the desired number of decimal places in the answer is reached. Add zeros if necessary.
